Classic Aussie morning tea

South Burnett Times - - RURAL WEEKLY -

GOLDEN syrup damper, something different for a weekend morning tea with the kids. You will need:

3 cups of self-raising flour 1 pinch salt 2 teaspoons of unsalted butter, roughly chopped 1/2 cup of golden syrup 1 cup of milk 2 tablespoons of water

Combine all dry ingredients, make a well in the middle, add wet ingredients in the well, and mix. Turn onto floured board and kneed.

Shape into a rough ball and bake in a 180 degree oven for roughly half an hour (just tap it with your fist and if it feels hollow, it's done!)

Break off bits and serve with butter and more syrup or jam.
