New bridge opens

South Burnett Times - - NEWS -

A NEW bridge was opened in Linville, just south of Blackbutt, on Thursday, which will mean farmers will be able to transport heavier loads more directly. Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said the new Harry Carey bridge would be able to carry most commercial loads, ensuring local farmers can get goods to market quickly. “Previously, local freight operators were load-limited by the single-lane timber bridge,” Ms Nash said. “This upgrade has delivered an almost 24m long, two-lane, concrete bridge.” The new bridge cost $1.3 million, with funds from Somerset Regional Council and the Federal Government’s National Stronger Regions Fund and Bridge Renewal Programme.
