SCHOOL SHINES WITH REGIONAL SHOWCASE AWARD
BLACKBUTT State School has been awarded a Regional Commendation in the Showcase 2017 Awards for Excellence in Schools.
The Regional Commendation was part of the Network Ten Showcase Awards for Excellence in the Early and Primary Years.
Blackbutt State School principal Gayle Williamson said the school received the commendation for The Learning Impact of PLIPs – Personalised Learning Improvement Plans.
The school has PLIPs for each student, with the plans targeting student strengths, motivators and areas of interest as well as looking at any underlying barriers to learning.
Mrs Williamson said the PLIPs looked at personal learning goals, with a focus on areas for improvement with agreed educational goals.
“We also look at strategies for improvement, both at school and at home,’’ she said. “Our focus is on reading, attendance, literacy, numeracy, leadership and sport.
“Our staff work with students and their parents to provide targeted support from class teachers and teacher aides through a focus on intervention and enrichment.”
