THE South Bur­nett com­mu­nity will be re­mem­ber­ing the sac­ri­fice sol­diers made a cen­tury ago this week­end.

Guns fell silent on the West­ern Front af­ter more than four years of con­tin­u­ous war­fare 100 years ago, at 11am on Novem­ber 11, 1918.

Ev­ery year, Aus­tralians gather for a minute’s si­lence at 11am to re­mem­ber the sol­diers who fought in World War I for Armistice Day, re­mem­ber­ing the mo­ment the Ger­mans called to se­cure a peace set­tle­ment.

There are sev­eral ser­vices be­ing held in the South Bur­nett on Sun­day, Novem­ber 11.


Kin­garoy will hold a Re­mem­brance Day ser­vice with a march of vet­er­ans com­menc­ing from the cro­quet club side of Me­mo­rial Park to the Me­mo­rial Ro­tunda at 10.30am on Sun­day.

Long-serv­ing RSL sub-branch sec­re­taries Doug Farmer OAM and War­ren Cock­burn will lead the march, fol­lowed by Taabinga State School stu­dents, the flag party and then the vet­er­ans.

A ser­vice will fol­low the pa­rade, and the tra­di­tional mount­ing of the Catafalque Party cer­e­mony in Me­mo­rial Park, fea­tur­ing guest speaker Rear Ad­mi­ral Brett Wol­ski AM from the Royal Aus­tralian Navy.

The Kumbia res­i­dent and Kin­garoy SHS alumni serves as the Mil­i­tary Jus­tice Co­or­di­na­tion Com­mit­tee chair­man and the chair­man of the Royal Aus­tralian Navy Re­lief Trust Fund.

Mem­bers of the pub­lic are wel­come to lay wreaths at the Kin­garoy ser­vice.


Black­butt RSL sub-branch will be hold­ing a Re­mem­brance Day ser­vice at the mon­u­ment on the cor­ner of Coul­son St and Hart St.

The ser­vice will start at 10.45am on Sun­day.

Nanango RSL sub-branch will be hold­ing a Re­mem­brance Day cer­e­mony at the me­mo­rial on Henry St on Sun­day.

The ser­vice will com­mence at 10.40am.

There will be a spe­cial fly­over of a World War I replica plane, which will do gen­tle or­bits above the Nanango town­ship af­ter 11am.

The plane will be flown by pilot Jim Gol­langher, who built the plane in me­mory of Ma­jor Roderic Dal­las, who served in World War I from 1913-18 and was born at the Mt Stan­ley sta­tion, east of Nanango.

The plane was built in hon­our of the Nanango ma­jor and to add to the Nanango Re­mem­brance Day cer­e­mony.


PHOTO: LAU­REN LARK­ING There will be a march and cer­e­mony held in Mur­gon at the Lamb St War Me­mo­rial on Sun­day.

The march will com­mence at 10.15am on Sun­day, Novem­ber 11, with two min­utes of si­lence to be ob­served at 11am.

A wreath-lay­ing cer­e­mony will con­clude the ser­vice.

Com­mu­nity mem­bers are wel­come to at­tend a light lunch at the Mur­gon Ser­vices Club fol­low­ing the ser­vice.


The com­mu­nity is wel­come to join the Wondai RSL sub-branch for its Re­mem­brance Day cer­e­mony on Sun­day.

The event will start with a ded­i­ca­tion of the new plaque at the me­mo­rial out­side the town hall at 10.40am.

The ser­vice will fol­low with a minute’s si­lence start­ing at 11am.

Mem­bers of the gen­eral pub­lic are wel­come to lay wreaths at the Wondai me­mo­rial site dur­ing the cer­e­mony.


Goomeri RSL will be host­ing a Re­mem­brance Day ser­vice at 10.45am on Sun­day.

The cer­e­mony will be held at Goomeri’s ceno­taph, un­der the town clock.

The gen­eral pub­lic are wel­come to join the RSL for a sausage sizzle af­ter­wards at the Goomeri RSL room, un­der the Hall of Me­mory.


There will be a ser­vice held at the Yar­ra­man Ceno­taph on the D’Aguilar High­way at 11am on Sun­day.

Any­one wish­ing to lay a wreath dur­ing the ser­vice is en­cour­aged to ar­rive prior to 10.45am.


A ser­vice will be held at the Cher­bourg War Me­mo­rial at 11am on Sun­day.


A Re­mem­brance Day cer­e­mony will be held at the Boon­dooma Homestead from 10am on Sun­day.


A flag-rais­ing cer­e­mony will be held at the RSL Me­mo­rial Park at 11am on Sun­day.

TIME TO RE­FLECT: Rear Ad­mi­ral Brett Wol­ski of the Royal Aus­tralian Navy will be the guest speaker at the Kin­garoy Re­mem­brance Day ser­vice on Novem­ber 11.
