Highway cameras in action
SPEEDING drivers on Forrest Highway between Lake Clifton and Binningup can now expect fines after the average speed safety cameras were switched on yesterday.
Drivers were given ample warning with weeks of television, digital, radio and billboard campaigns informing road-users of the changes.
Acting Road Safety Commissioner Iain Cameron said the average speed safety camera zone on Forrest Highway is another tool WA police have to slow down drivers.
“It’s getting harder for drivers to deliberately speed and get away with it,” Mr Cameron said.
Police and Road Safety Minister Michelle Roberts said the State Government was committed to reducing road trauma on WA roads, and speed was a significant factor in fatal and serious injury crashes in WA.
The six-month test period prior to issuing speeding drivers with infringements found a significant reduction in high-level speeds within the Forrest Highway zone.
