Jye to have a crack at the big time

South Western Times - - Sport -

BUNBURY Swimming Club teenager Jye Jensen is excited to be representing WA and not worrying about the pressures of success.

The 15-year-old will head to Canberra later this month for the Australian State Teams Age Short Course Championships, where he will represent WA in the 1500m freestyle, 400m individual medley and the 200m butterfly races.

The event will take place between September 22 and 24 at the Australian Institute of Sport, with just 40 swimmers from each State able to compete.

“I was pretty surprised I got selected,” Jye said.

“I was just so stoked (to get the call).”

Jye said he did not believe he was a chance to place in any of his events, but was looking forward to the experience of racing against some of the country’s best.

“I don’t think I will be up there, but I will give it a crack,” he said.

“I want to make some friendships and have a different experience.

“I have never been selected for a team like this before.”
