Strong winds can’t stop Busselton

BUSSELTON are the 2017 South West Soccer Association Cup champions after defeating Dynamos 2-0 in Leschenault on Sunday.

Despite a howling wind, Busselton managed to score an amazing goal when Mike Newell headed the ball into the back of the net after a cross which was caught in the strong breeze.

From here Busselton kept their structure and composure with their defenders clearing with a number of long kicks up the field, before taking advantage with the breeze at their backs during the second half.

Dynamos youngster Josh Cruikshank and teammate Greg Hayes worked tirelessly to keep Busselton’s attacks at bay but with the breeze at their backs the victors kept up a relentless assault on the Dynamos.

This was eventually rewarded when Martin Ryan got a head to the ball in the six-yard box to beat goalkeeper Jordan Barclay and double their lead.

From here both teams defended well, with Busselton holding on to win the championship.
