Not guilty plea over road death
A MAN accused of deliberately driving head-on into a car on Bussell Highway, killing mother-oftwo Jenni Pratt, pleaded not guilty to murder yesterday.
Shaun Troy Southern, 45, is accused of veering onto the wrong side of the road and swerving erratically before hitting 61-yearold Ms Pratt’s car near Capel in February.
Mr Southern pleaded not guilty to one count of murder when he appeared in the Stirling Gardens Magistrate’s Court by video-link from prison yesterday.
The court was previously told Mr Southern may never be fit to stand trial because he had brain damage.
But defence lawyer Kathryn Heslop yesterday said Mr Southern would have the capacity to follow the proceedings at his trial.
Mr Southern also pleaded not guilty to acts or omissions causing bodily harm to Ms Pratt’s passenger, Busselton woman Karen Williams, who suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash. He was remanded in custody to appear in the Supreme Court in November.
