Guest speaker will spruik wood as con­struc­tion ma­te­rial

MAN­AGER of Planet Ark En­vi­ron­men­tal Foun­da­tion’s Make it Wood cam­paign David Rowl­in­son will be a guest speaker at the the in­au­gu­ral PROCURE South West event to be held in Bun­bury on Novem­ber 24-25.

Mr Rowl­in­son said wood could play a big part in help­ing tackle cli­mate change. “Wood is a low car­bon op­tion for build­ing,” he said. “It stores car­bon for the life of the build­ing, is re­new­able and has a sig­nif­i­cantly lower em­bod­ied en­ergy than other build­ing ma­te­ri­als such as con­crete, steel or plas­tics.”

South West Cham­bers of Com­merce and In­dus­try pres­i­dent Pa­trick War­rand said it was ex­cit­ing to think what more was pos­si­ble for the re­gion’s tim­ber in­dus­try, which was al­ready a ma­jor em­ployer in the re­gion.

“We want to show what is pos­si­ble, spark dif­fer­ent think­ing,” he said. “We want to forge stronger re­la­tion­ships and a strong sense of work­ing to­gether across govern­ment, in­dus­try and busi­ness so our re­gion can con­tinue to grow and pros­per.”

Mr War­rand urged lo­cal busi­ness and other in­ter­ested peo­ple to at­tend the event, which will be held at the South Re­gional TAFE Au­to­mo­tive Cen­tre on Robert­son Drive, Bun­bury. Tick­ets start at $20 and can be pur­chased via the event web­site – www.pro­cure­south­west.com.au.
