Miss­ing sea­man likely drowned

AN ex­pe­ri­enced sea­man who dis­ap­peared while on a solo fish­ing trip likely drowned when he was try­ing to cut a rope that was tan­gled around his pro­pel­lers, an in­quest has been told.

Jef­frey Thomas Doyle, 61, was last seen when he set off from the Bun­bury Yacht Club in his 8.5m boat to go fish­ing on Oc­to­ber 16, 2016.

Giv­ing ev­i­dence at an in­quest into Mr Doyle’s sus­pected death yes­ter­day, Sgt Lau­rie Stubbs said both of the boat’s pro­pel­lers were tightly bound by rope when it washed up.
