IMAGINE watching the latest blockbuster movies in the comfort of your own home while they are being shown in the cinemas.
That’s a dream Victoria Park resident Ash Oliver and South Perth resident Eumir Gaspar are trying to make a reality.
The duo are working on the concept Beanbag Entertainment, which would be a streaming service that would allow people to watch new movies on their TVs, laptops or smartphones.
Mr Oliver said the idea came to him after wanting to watch a new movie online legally but having no luck finding it.
“There has been lots of planning in the last month and things have really ramped up,” he said.
“We are going to look for some crowdfunding soon, because we’ll need to do some travelling. d473616
“There are going to be some costs as we travel to speak with distributors. There are probably more than 150 people to speak to.
“We are hoping to have everything done in six to eight months, enough time to travel and speak with everyone, and we should have some content.”
Mr Oliver said he believed the idea was ahead of the curve and although he expected resistance from the big players, he believed he had evidence the idea could work.
“We are hoping to get content from film festivals, filmmakers and provide them the evidence they can make money,” he said.
“We’ve done research that shows that 85 to 90 per cent of people would be interested in something like this and everyone I’ve discussed it has been supportive.”
