BELMONT coach Jadranko ‘Adrian’ Tesanovic has just been named the national Greco-Roman wrestling coach.

Tesanovic was elected earlier this month to lead Wrestling Australia’s (WAI) national high performance team and development program.

“I’m very proud, happy and I think it’s the peak of my coaching here,” Tesanovic said.

“Every coach has a dream to coach the national team.

“It’s good for wrestling in Western Australia too, because now we’ve got our national coach here.”

Tesanovic’s duties will include discovering talent, creating new programs, working with the WAI and managers in Sydney, and working at high performance camps.

Tesanovic moved to Australia in 1997 after the war in the former Yugoslavia, in which he was drafted as a soldier.

“I saw a lot, it wasn’t easy,” he said.

Tesanovic set to work learning English and studying, soon becoming a citizen and going on to work at Princess Margaret Hospital.

The enthusiastic coach already has champions in his gym MMA 24/7 at Belmont, including Ando Lehtmets and Troy Humberston, with Joseph Di Vincenzo set to return.

“Freestyle wrestling is very popular but Greco-Roman is such a sophisticated, tough sport,” he said. “It includes upper body strength and you need lots of training.

The next Greco-Roman event for Tesanovic is the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship in December, which will be held in Johannesburg.
