City gears up to fight mozzies

AS the days heat up and mos­quito sea­son be­gins, the City of Bel­mont says it is ready to com­bat the pests. Act­ing chief ex­ec­u­tive Robin Gar­rett said the City has been pro­vid­ing a proac­tive mos­quito mon­i­tor­ing and treat­ment pro­gram for years. It is aware of a num­ber of ar­eas with higher than nor­mal mos­quito ac­tiv­ity around the Swan River, in par­tic­u­lar around Kul­jak Is­land, As­cot Wa­ters and Gar­vey Park. “As most mos­qui­toes have the po­ten­tial to be vec­tors of dis­ease, all com­plaints are re­sponded to with a view to con­trol­ling or re­mov­ing po­ten­tial mos­quito breed­ing lo­ca­tions,” Mr Gar­rett said.
