Mance makes mem­o­rable day for De­mons

NEIGH­BOURS Perth and South Perth faced off in a Round 7 derby in the WACA Pre­mier Cricket com­pe­ti­tion.

Uniquely, all four Perth teams bat­ted first and much to the sat­is­fac­tion of the coach­ing staff, all bat­ted out the day.

In first grade, Perth fin­ished with a competitive 262 against a tight South Perth attack that gave lit­tle away all day.

Af­ter be­ing in some early trou­ble at 3-34, Perth cap­tain Luke Jury ground out an im­por­tant 50 as he and Sean Roberts (88) put on 113 for the fourth wicket.

Josh Ni­cholas hit a quick 43 to set up a fas­ci­nat­ing chase for South Perth next Satur­day.

In se­cond grade, Isaac Townsend showed his tal­ents with his first cen­tury (102) in se­niors.

Kai Hickey with 53 and Tom Casey, re­turn­ing from in­jury, with 48 en­abled Perth to amass 339 and set their op­po­nents a mas­sive task.

The high­light of the day was in third grade, where Hugh Sando smashed 160 to get Perth to 311. His bril­liant knock in­cluded 18 bound­aries and four sixes.

Ben Spargo (51) did the hard work early in the fourth be­fore Jake Gar­land (72) and Rus­sell Cowcher (55n.o.) hit out in the af­ter­noon to see Perth fin­ish with a strong 276.

To round out a good day for the De­mons, there was a very no­table per­for­mance in the un­der 15s with opener Ben Mance mak­ing 109n.o.
