BREAST cancer survivor Alison Reid will use the same humour she drew on during her cancer journey to complete the 42km route in this year’s Walk for Women’s Cancer.

It is the third year the Hawaiian Retail general manager has supported the fundraiser for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research .

“I met a lot of women doing the walk and I know I approached breast cancer different to a lot of people,” Ms Reid, who was diagnosed in her 40s, said.

“I went out with a very positive attitude thinking ‘this is not going to get me’, I am a survivor’.

“I made light of my life and tried to keep the humour going.”

The Victoria Park resident even managed to smile after fracturing her back and suffering a compressed vertebra in a car accident two weeks into her radiation treatment.

Ms Reid said that since she was diagnosed in 2009, women had become more aware of their breasts and were following through with treatment and after care to ensure the best chance of survival. The Walk for Women’s Cancer is on May 5. Register at www.walkforwomen
