WA juice producer Re:Fresh Juice + Cleanse will be taking its Australiafirst fresh hemp milk across the country this week.
The business has a factory in East Victoria Park and a new pop-up store at 11 King William Street in Bayswater.
Hemp milk is made from the seeds of the hemp plant, cannabis sativa.
The company produces hemp milk and juices daily and distributes it to cafes, restaurants, hotels, supermarkets and homes.
Owner and chef Liam O’Neil started the business three years ago after touring the world as a personal chef for 16 years, serving musicians such as Sir Paul McCartney, Madonna and Prince.
Mr O’Neil, of Mt Lawley, said he would now look at a trial run of hemp milk in Sydney and aimed to stock it in stores nationally within four to eight weeks.
“Basically, the reason why I decided to do it was because there was a lot of people who have nut allergies and all the juice companies do an almond milk, so I wanted to do a nut-free milk,” he said.
“I was waiting until hemp seeds became legal to sell as a food product, so as soon as they became legal I jumped on it and created a recipe.
“The health benefits are incredible and it is nut-free, dairy-free, vegan and all plant-based.
“We have just launched a barista blend especially for cafes, so that is going well.
“The good thing about Perth is we are so isolated – you can create something here without the rest of Australia knowing about it.”
