Buddy bench rocks
MANNING Primary School students have created a colourful pledge spreading awareness that bullying is not acceptable through its buddy bench art project.
Started as part of Bullying No Way Day in March, the project had students paint more than 300 rocks with messages of friendship and acceptance that were last month set into a pathway leading to the school’s buddy bench, which was installed in 2016.
Principal Craig Ashby said the buddy bench was a great way for children to make friends and develop new and positive relationships.
“Bullying is something that is simply not tolerated in our school and this initiative was all about inclusion and acceptance,” he said.
“The colour and painted rock art adds to the experience (the bench) provides for children.”
Parents and Citizens association member Jo Newman said Bullying No Way Day was one of the most successful events the school community organised and one it was looking forward to supporting every year.
“The feedback has been phenomenally positive (on the project) and there has been a lot of excitement from students seeing their creation,” she said.
