THE Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Como chapel in Labouchere Road. The building has played an important part in the lives of many families who have attended the church’s facility, not only for their Sunday worship meetings, but also for youth activities, women’s and men’s conferences, community service projects, weddings, funerals and other important family or public events. A leader of the church, Bryan Skipworth said the chapel was more than bricks and mortar. “The chapel is a symbol of a community and its doors are open to welcome the general public who would like to worship and also participate in opportunities for learning and service,” he said.

■ Cancer Council WA is celebrating 20 years since the launch of its SunSmart Schools program, which has seen more than 200,000 WA kids grow up with a reduced risk of skin cancer.

■ Wesley College has been named as an Innovative School by The Educator. Only 40 schools across the country received the recognition.
