Chalking up success for Eagles fans

Southern Gazette (Belmont) - - FRONT PAGE -

GOOD support starts at home and for the West Coast Eagles, some of their closest neighbours helped get the hype started along the streets of Victoria Park last week.

Ahead of the Eagles’ huge preliminary final win over Melbourne on Saturday, students from Lathlain Primary and St Clare’s School used royal blue and yellow chalk to colour the pavement outside cafe Laika.

Both schools are only about a torpedo punt from the Eagles’ training fields and under-construction home base in Lathlain.

Other supporters soon joined West Coast 2006 premiership player Adam Selwood in chalking messages of support, such as “Go Shuey”, “Flyin’ Ryan” and the club’s mantra “It’s time to fly”.

More chalk was spread later outside local hotels.muni d487046 Picture: Will Russell
