Waste service picks up

Southern Gazette (Belmont) - - FRONT PAGE -

AN ‘on demand’ pick-up service for white goods, mattresses, bed bases and lounge suites will start in Belmont to help clear away large and often unsightly unwanted junk.

It’s the one obvious change that will be introduced by the City of Belmont’s new rubbish collector, Suez Australia, which started a five-year refuse collection contract on November 1.

Belmont chief executive John Christie said bin collection days across the city would remain the same but there would be a change to where all the waste goes after it has been collected.

“There are no plans to change bin servicing days for the majority of residents and residents’ allocation of blue and green bulk bins will continue,” he said.

“Green bulk bins will still be available for green waste disposal.

“Waste from residential, commercial and public litter bins will be transported for disposal at Redhill Waste Management Facility, as will green bulk waste for mulching, while recyclables and bulk refuse will be taken to Suez’s Bibra Lake Resource Recovery Park.”

Bulk rubbish collections will occur in the fourth week of every month, with residents asked to call or arrange online for unwanted goods to be collected.

Suez is responsible for waste collection in many local government areas.
