Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Opinion -

South Perth’s 30-storey tower development and the destruction of decades-old eucalypts in Lathlain Place drew online comment last week. This is great news, and what an awesome building it will be. Hopefully this will stimulate even more and higher developments to happen. There is still plenty of room. - Steve To justify the trees’ demise based on cracked paving and kerbing is to deny the trees’ obvious natural right to outgrow the man-made constraints placed around it. "In the future Lathlain Place will be recognised for its canopy of shady trees"... Cold comfort considering it already was recognised for this. I'm not sure what future Mr Bow is talking about because it won't be in his or my lifetime. - Peter Melrosa I agree with Peter. The expense to cut down mature trees and then replant new ones seems inappropriate.

- Julie Smith Incredibly shortsighted decision in itself, and as for replacing the two eucalypts with a South American variety of tree - simply unbelievable.
