The DAA released a statement recognising the three worst diets for 2014 as voted on by hundreds of Australian nutrition experts.

These were the Lemon Detox Diet, SkinnyMe tea and the Ashy Bines Bikini Body Challenge (clean-eating diet advice).

DAA chief executive Claire Hewat also recently criticised the highly publicised paleo diet.

“A recent search of the published studies looking at Palaeolithic diets revealed no more than 10 studies, all with very few participants over very short timeframes,” she said.

“Any diet excluding whole food groups should raise suspicions.

“The idea of cutting out grain-based foods and legumes is not backed by science, and eating more meat than is needed by the body certainly has risks, according to the World Health Organisation.”
