Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Opinion -

PREMIER Barnett's dream of a rail line to the airport is a waste of money because it won’t run 24/7.

In addition, where are passengers for the airport going to stow their luggage, perhaps two large suitcases and probably two cabin bags, on suburban trains at any time but especially at peak periods?

Someone leaving Mandurah or Clarkson for the airport will probably have to leave home three or four hours before, so they reach the airport with plenty of time to check in.

Moreover, I think train and bus timetables won’t fit with flight times because some trains and buses don’t start their journeys much before 5am and stop about midnight.

Mr Barnett and the Treasurer, Dr Nahan, are just kidding themselves if they think travellers are going to use the train service to get to and from the airport.

This money, just like the footy stadium money, could be put to better use. Stop wasting taxpayers’ money. STEVEN CRUDEN, Leda. Publication of letters with the sign-off Name and address supplied are the exception rather than the rule. In certain circumstances, identification may be suppressed, but this is entirely at the editor’s discretion.
