Judges get the good oils for show
SOUTH Perth foodie Meredith Skinner gave her senses a workout as a judge for the 2014 Perth Royal Extra Virgin Olive Oil Show. Ms Skinner, owner of Loose Produce in Como, and chief steward Ellen Slobe sampled and scrutinised 125 entries, including 100 entries from Geraldton in the north to Esperance in the south. The remainder came from the ACT, NSW, Victoria and Tasmania. A Royal Show spokeswoman said many regions had reported a lower-than-average harvest consistent with the normal cycle of good and poor harvests for olives, and entries were slightly down on last year’s 150. Award-winning oils will be on display in the Fresh from WA Pavilion at the Perth Royal Show from September 27 to October 4.
