OKINE LIVE AND UNCENSORED

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Comedy - Tanya MacNaughton

TRIPLE J co-host and comedian Matt Okine admits to a love/hate relationship with his current radio gig.

“I absolutely hate the breakfast radio life at 4.30am when I’m crying in the shower but totally love the breakfast radio life at 11.30am when I’m walking out and on my way home,” he said.

“This time last year I was getting an email from Triple J asking me what I was doing next year because they were looking for a new host.

“So if they were looking to replace me, they’d be putting the feelers out now. I haven’t heard anything on the street which I guess means I’ll be around for another year.”

Not only has Okine, originally from Brisbane, been busy with a broadcasting career in Sydney but in the past 12 months, he was nominated as best newcomer for the 2013 Edinburgh Comedy Award and was in town for the Perth International Comedy Festi-

Happiness Not val with show Included.

The comedian is heading west again this month with Matt Okine – Live, which he said would be a combination of new and old material as he never got to bring his two shows before Happiness Not Included to Perth.

“It’s great connecting with the audiences at the moment because a lot are only just now discovering my stand-up through the radio,” Okine said. “And I guess some of the things I get to say on stage I don’t get to say on the radio, mainly because I’m not allowed to.

“I love doing stage and there’s nothing that can replace that.”
