Towers powers Olympic to upset
OLYMPIC Kingsway defeated Curtin University soccer club 2-1 on Friday night.
Goals to Oliver Hilton and J.P. Mills either side of Rory Binnie’s equaliser were enough to force a major upset as eighth-placed Kingsway beat fourth-placed Curtin.
Curtin started poorly and were a goal behind after 20 minutes when they failed to clear their lines and Hilton fired into the roof of the net to make it 1-0.
From there the home team started to build and were rewarded when Fraser Grant broke through on goal and earned a penalty as he was brought down by Ben Towers as he went around him.
Towers saved Binnie’s effort from the spot but the rebound fell kindly and Binnie was able to tap home.
Curtin almost took the lead minutes later as Binnie put the ball into Eddie Tikoft’s path but the midfielder’s volley went wide.
The teams went into the break at 1-1 and after the break it was all Curtin.
Towers pulled off save after save to keep Olympic Kingsway in the game and against the run of play they took the lead as Mills fired home from 18 yards.
Rory Binnie’s equaliser wasn’t enough for Curtin to get the points.
