Pro­fes­sor Christo­pher Ether­ton-Beer from the Bent­ley Health Ser­vice Stroke Unit said there were ways to de­crease the risk of hav­ing a stroke. “While we can't change our ge­netic makeup or age, there is com­pelling ev­i­dence that stop­ping smoking, con­trol­ling di­a­betes, man­ag­ing high blood pres­sure and treat­ing high blood choles­terol re­duces the risk of vas­cu­lar events in­clud­ing heart dis­ease and stroke,” Mr Ether­ton-Beer said.
