STUDENTS from Como Secondary College and Belmont City College recently had the opportunity to meet some of Perth’s top science, engineering and mathematic minds.

About 280 students came together at UWA’s Winthrop Hall for Science Cafe to meet professionals from the CSIRO, Rio Tinto, Worley Parsons and Alcoa.

“Studying science can lead to an amazing array of careers and Science Cafe helps demonstrate those links by connecting secondary students to professionals from a range of industries,” co-ordinator Cecilia Hayes said.

“From astrophysicists through to policy advisers, it’s pretty inspiring to hear what pathways these people took and what a day in their job actually entails, and it doesn’t involve a white lab coat.”
