Curtin put up fight for gutsy win

UNI SIDE GAIN UPPER HAND IN SECOND HALF TO PULL AWAY

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Sport -

CURTIN University Soccer Club fought back from 1-0 down at halftime to earn a point against a strong Forrestfield team on Saturday afternoon.

After Forrestfield took the lead through Chris Perrot, goals to Jon Krawec and Chase Parker for Curtin got the university-based team into the lead, only to see a late rocket from Rhys Loxley snatch a point for the home side.

Curtin had the first chance of the game, but a save from Forrestfield custodian Matt Zappacosta kept the scores level.

From that point, the home side dominated the half and were rewarded when Perrot headed home from eight yards.

The teams were 1-0 at half-time.

After the break, Curtin took the upper hand and were rewarded when Krawec’s strike squeezed through Zappacosta’s legs.

Curtin then took the lead when Parker finished on the half-volley from a corner. It seemed it would stay that way until Loxley found some space at the edge of the box and fired home in the final minutes to earn a point for the home side.

Curtin play Fremantle United on Friday night in their last home game of the season.
