Support for apprentices

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Perth Airport -

MORE than 5000 apprentices in the Swan electorate are undertaking training, but completion rates across the nation are about 50 per cent.

Swan MHR Steve Irons therefore welcomed the Federal Government’s commitment to invest $200 million annually to form a new Australian Apprenticeship Support Network to lift apprenticeship completion rates.

Mr Irons said the Australian Apprenticeship Support Network would provide a central contact point for employees, particularly small businesses, looking to hire a new apprentice.

“From July 1, 2015, apprentices will be assisted to find an employer to begin their apprenticeship and receive mentoring through to the successful completion of their apprenticeship, and will be able to access career advice with dedicated support outside their workplace throughout their apprenticeship,” he said.
