Cooks of fu­ture taste suc­cess

FI­NAL­ISTS in the Taste of the Fu­ture schools cook­ing com­pe­ti­tion gath­ered at Bel­mont City Col­lege’s trade train­ing cen­tre on Thurs­day, Septem­ber 18.

The com­pe­ti­tion was open to Year 11 and 12 stu­dents in WA schools to pro­mote chef ap­pren­tice­ships in re­sponse to labour and skills short­ages in the hos­pi­tal­ity and tourism in­dus­try.

The prize for the win­ner was an ap­pren­tice schol­ar­ship val­ued at $3000 worth of Train­ing Col­lege fees plus ad­di­tional cash prizes for other place get­ters.

The schools at­tended by the top five fi­nal­ists will also re­ceive a $1000 voucher for kitchen equip­ment.

Com­pe­ti­tion host Hos­pi­tal­ity Group Train­ing em­ploys over 120 ap­pren­tices and trainees cur­rently work­ing in hos­pi­tal­ity venues through­out Perth and re­gional Western Aus­tralia.

Tay­lor Warner, of Nar­ro­gin Se­nior High School, won the com­pe­ti­tion, Lara Kirby from Swan Christian Col­lege was sec­ond with Melissa Glee­son (El­len­brook Sec­ondary Col­lege) placed third.

Alana Yeates, of Northam Se­nior High School, was fourth and Tayla Stevens, from War­wick Se­nior High School, fin­ished in fifth place.
