Cooks of future taste success
FINALISTS in the Taste of the Future schools cooking competition gathered at Belmont City College’s trade training centre on Thursday, September 18.
The competition was open to Year 11 and 12 students in WA schools to promote chef apprenticeships in response to labour and skills shortages in the hospitality and tourism industry.
The prize for the winner was an apprentice scholarship valued at $3000 worth of Training College fees plus additional cash prizes for other place getters.
The schools attended by the top five finalists will also receive a $1000 voucher for kitchen equipment.
Competition host Hospitality Group Training employs over 120 apprentices and trainees currently working in hospitality venues throughout Perth and regional Western Australia.
Taylor Warner, of Narrogin Senior High School, won the competition, Lara Kirby from Swan Christian College was second with Melissa Gleeson (Ellenbrook Secondary College) placed third.
Alana Yeates, of Northam Senior High School, was fourth and Tayla Stevens, from Warwick Senior High School, finished in fifth place.
