University ends debut season with a victory
TEAM DOESN’T LOOK BACK AFTER GOOD START
CURTIN University Soccer Club ended their season on a high after beating Ellenbrook United 3-1 on Saturday.
The uni side had six regular starters unavailable but it did not look that way as they controlled the game from the outset.
Norwegian import Nicolay Morland, Mark Matkovic, Jon Krawec and Khaled Salhah shone as they controlled the game.
Curtin took the lead early in the first half when a period of sustained pressure led to a corner. A towering header from Fraser Grant resulted in an own goal.
Krawec doubled the visitors’ lead before the break when the dead ball specialist buried his free kick in the top corner.
After the break Curtin was in cruise control but a slip in concentration al- lowed Ellenbrook to pull one back through a set piece as Dan Gulliver headed home.
Salhah put the result beyond doubt as he powered a shot from more than 40 yards out that left Ellenbrook with no chance. The result meant Curtin finished fifth in their first season in the Football West State League.
