Portrait to take pride of place again

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Kensington -

TWO years after the City of South Perth council decided to remove former mayor James Best’s portrait from display, the wind changed, and the council agreed to put it back.

At last week’s council meeting, the item was passed, which recommended the previous 2012 motion be rescinded and a new motion be adopted that the portrait is hung with other mayoral portraits.

The council removed the portrait in 2012 because it did not conform to council policy.

Last month, chief executive Cliff Frewing suggested three options to the council: to leave it in storage; display it, or gift it to Mr Best or the South Perth Historical Society.

The decision was made and the portrait will be displayed.
