Hi-tech screens to help tower
PERTH Airport’s traffic control tower will be fitted with new digital technology that will condense information to four computer screens.
Airservices Australia will also fit the Integrated Tower Automation Suite in the Gold Coast, Cairns and Brisbane towers.
Work will not begin at Perth Airport until 2016, and will be complete by 2017.
Airservices Air Traffic Control executive general manager Greg Hood said INTAS did away with the need for numerous computer screens and paperbased systems throughout each control tower.
It will provide tower controllers with four customisable touch screens displaying electronic flight strips, operational information, weather, terminal area radar displays, and, where available, surface surveillance data.
In addition to the new technology, each of the towers will also receive upgrades to a range of other systems, including mechanical, electrical, fire and water services.
