Angry bird alert
THE City of Belmont is warning its residents to be wary of swooping magpies now that the iconic birds’ breeding season has arrived. The council said individual adult pairs’ breeding season lasted about six weeks from when they began nesting until the baby bird left the nest. Residents are advised to dismount bicycles when approaching nesting areas, to wear a riding helmet or erect an orange traffic flag to their bike. Magpies that are particularly aggressive can be reported to the Wildcare helpline on 9474 9055.
