Foreshore strategy plan passed

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Swan River -

THE South Perth Foreshore Strategy and Management Plan will be sent to the Swan River Trust for formal consideration after it was passed with a minor amendment by South Perth councillors at the September 23 council meeting.

The plan was made to guide the management of the foreshore which stretches from the Narrows Bridge to Ellam Street.

Councillor Michael Huston moved the amendment which added that the history of the land, resumed for the purpose of ‘Swan River Improvements and Foreshore Recreation Grounds’, remained current.

His amendment came after concerns were raised from members of the community about what the City would do with the land.

He said the addition of the words ‘and remains current’ to confirm the resumption of land would not limit the council and it simply confirmed it and made it clear.

“It will ensure this plan at last gets the uniform support it deserves,” he said.

Councillor Colin Cala seconded the amendment and said he was happy to support it if it removed the anxiety from the community.

The plan includes the improvement of public infrastructure, recreation and tourism experiences.
