GRIT pop trio The Kin are a success story who were in the right place at the right time.

Not only did Australianraised brothers Isaac and Thorald Koren bump into US-born bare-handed drummer Shakerleg while he was busking in the New York subway, but a chance meeting with Pink at an LA charity event led to them supporting the singer during her 2013 tour.

“She got to see us play in a house in LA, then about a year or so later a guy we were writing with, Billy Mann, reintroduced us and suggested the possibility of touring with her,” Thorald said.

“She said yes and called us directly. Then we had this series of lucky turns where bands broke up, things got rescheduled and we went from playing the original 20-date arena tour to doing 40 dates across the whole Australia and US tour.”

Currently headlining their own Australian tour, The Kin will perform at Mojos, Fremantle, on October 30, and The Rosemount, Perth, on October 31.

“Since releasing our Get On It EP we’ve written almost an album’s worth of new songs, so we’ll play the new stuff as well as those on Get On It,” Isaac said. Known for making trouble with their “musical robberies”, by bursting into song in a high-traffic public area, the guys said they might just “rob” somewhere while in Perth and, given their American ties and the dates, possibly in full Halloween garb.
