BELMONT Raiders Teeball started involving older players to help its tiniest of players, some aged just two, last season.

The club formed in 1978 and has always included plenty of family involvement, but decided to take it a step further to help its Tiny Tot Teeball.

“We were able to get a past player, who is 16 and now plays baseball, to come back and coach a sub junior team,” club registrar Robyn Vakatini said. “We had a group of 12-year-olds that went and completed the umpire course and became accredited.

“These kids volunteer to umpire games of the younger divisions.”

Tiny Tot Teeball is a new concept that is a modified game of teeball in which parents play with the players who are aged two to four years.

“It was a great success last season and the numbers steadily increased throughout the season, Vakatini said.”

Teeball tutor... Nicolas Vakatini (12) and Indya Parmar (3).
