Program powers up energy careers
NEARLY 50 students from Kent Street Senior High School and Aquinas College joined 100 others from across the state to learn about WA’s oil and gas industry under a Chevron careers program that contributes to tertiary studies and traineeships.
Students gained insights into production processes, recruitment and occupational health and safety matters at the
three-day LNG Exploration Camp in Perth.
Aquinas student Julian Cox said the camp inspired him to pursue his future goals, while fellow student Lewis Hallam said it presented a good picture of the different career pathways on offer.
"It really gave me an opportunity to learn about the career paths in Chevron and the energy industry and I really value that there’s a big focus on safety and putting safety first,” Lewis said.
Kent Street Senior High School students Hayden Lamb and Michael Patha echoed these sentiments, with Michael saying it had helped him develop valuable life skills.
“The program and camp is fun, it's interactive and so different to other normal subjects,” Michael said.
