Perth Portuguese side clear winners

FOUR goals to Julian Teles helped the Perth Portuguese Soccer Team to a 4-2 win over Belmont-based South Africa in round two of the Perth Amateur Soccer World Cup.

South Africa got the jump early in the game, finding the back of the net after rapid ball movement in their forward half left the Portuguese defenders in a rabble and unable to stop a high cross, which sailed past the keeper and sent South Africa one goal up early.

But that was the only shining light for South Africa in a hard game, with Portugal showing their class with the ball and making it very difficult for their opposition.

Teles’ first goal came courtesy of a South African goalkeeper mistake, who rushed towards Portugal’s Julio De Aguiar on the wing midway through the first quarter.

De Aguiar jumped the keeper and kept the ball moving forward, unselfishly passing off to Teles who strolled in for an easy goal.

His other three goals were not much more difficult, Teles’ speed and height making it hard for the South African defenders to help their keeper.

A consolation goal for South Africa in injury time saw the final score finish at 42.

A Belmont-based South Africa player (yellow jersey) gets a run on his Portuguese opponent.
