A safer place for students

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Como City Of South Perth -

THE area around Como Primary School is set to get even safer.

The school’s Parents and Citizens group, in conjunction with a Health Promotion student from Curtin University, are in the planning stages of introducing The Safety House Project in the school catchment area to support safe journeys for students between home and school.

The Safety House Program is a child protection program that provides a safe place for children to run to, and provides children with the skills and confidence to feel safe.

Health Promotion student Yvonne Vo said the program was very much community based.

“As this project progresses, we rely on the voices and ongoing support of the community,” she said.

“Once we have volunteers, we will commence the screening process and have the homes set up.

“There is no maximum number of homes to be set up; the more the better.”
