Town has say on peninsula
THE need for careful parking management and sites for a primary school, community uses and active open space will be highlighted by the Town of Victoria Park in its submission to the WA Planning Commission’s draft Burswood Peninsula District Structure Plan.
A report by Rochelle Lavery, the Town’s future life and built life manager, supports the plan and will form the basis of the council’s submission to the public comment period if approved at tonight’s monthly meeting.
The Town wants to recommend the WAPC’s final plan go further to co-ordinate the peninsula’s movement network, parking, servicing infrastructure and community facilities to ensure they will be adequate for its estimated 20,000 residents in the next 30 years.
It also wants the plan to address a commitment to redeveloping Burswood railway station as the most significant catalyst for redevelopment of Burswood Station East and Burswood Station West.
The report stresses the need for a primary school on the site because Victoria Park and Lathlain primary schools are at capacity.
The Town has jurisdiction over most of the land covered by the draft plan and owns the 84ha former Burswood Dome site on Great Eastern Highway.
The plan proposes nine precincts that need detailed planning, some already complete with construction underway: Belmont Park Racecourse Redevelopment, New Perth Stadium, Stadium South, Belmont Station South, The Peninsula, Crown Perth, Burswood Station West, Burswood Station East and The Springs.
