Gateway to the perfect piece
CHRISTOPHER Bailey (left) has been operating out of his South Perth studio for seven years and says all the customers that come through his door each have their own specific style and request.
The Mends Street jeweller makes everything by hand to suit the customer and said no two jobs were the same.
“A couple of years back a client wanted to reproduce the gate to their family farm, which they no longer owned, for a present to his mother,” he said.
“Working from photos, I was able to reproduce a scale model of the gate in silver that was about 30cm long to sit on her mantelpiece and remind her of place she loved and once lived in.”
He said he became jeweller because he had strong love of art.
“It is something thought that would suit me and let me carry on painting on the side and complement each other,” he said. Bailey has showcased his painting in Mends Street before. While Bailey's main business is making one-off handcrafted pieces, he also repairs and does valuations.
