ON the anniversary of the day he laid his father to rest, Kensington Police officer-incharge Senior Sergeant Ash Goy spoke about how much his dad loved the force.

Kensington Police won the team category at the WA Police Excellence awards on Thursday.

As he was congratulated by Commissioner Karl O’Callaghan and South East Metropolitan Superintendant Brad Royce, Snr Sgt Goy said he was humbled.

“But it is not about me at all, but about the team,” he said.

Kensington was acknowledged for the way its police teams had welcomed their new roles in police reform, adopting a country approach by becoming active in the community, including regular market appearances and school visits.

The team also has a highprofile social media presence, with more than 2000 Twitter followers.

Constable Katie Roberts said the online presence kept the team in touch with the community, allowing people to ask questions without having to visit a station.
