City’s new Aussie citizens double

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Kensington Como -

AN increasing proportion of people living in the City of South Perth are new citizens.

The City welcomed 550 new citizens at seven ceremonies this year, about double last year’s number.

Mayor Sue Doherty said the ceremonies were an opportunity to celebrate citizenship as the common bond uniting all Australians.

“The ceremony symbolises the sense of belonging,” she said.

“So many Australians take our heritage for granted and it is indeed a privilege to live in a country where we are free from the turmoil that other places experience.”

The next ceremony will be held on Australia Day at Sir James Mitchell Park.
