City lets rehab stay
TWO KEWDALE homes, used as a rehabilitation facility for the past 10 years without the knowledge of the City of Belmont, have won approval from the council to continue.
The Department of Housing’s Fresh Start Recovery Program for socially disadvantaged women operates from two strata lots at 17 and 17a Keane Street.
The Department leases the properties to Foundation Housing who sublease to Fresh Start, which offers supported accommodation for recovering addicts.
When the matter went out for public submissions, two objections were received regarding noise, privacy and associated antisocial issues.
Councillors voted 8-1 in support of the facility, with Margie Bass against.
