Taylor honoured for outstanding leadership
SOUTH Perth resident Sue Taylor has been announced as the joint winner of the SRG Sport and Leisure Service to Sport award.
The award was announced at the ANZ Sports Star Awards at Crown Perth last night and her fellow award winners were Kim Rodgers and Peter Silinger.
With more than 50 years of service to netball in WA – 20 years on the court – Taylor was recognised for her contribution as a player, coach, umpire and manager.
Taylor is a board member and director of Netball Australia, a position she has held since 1995.
A former director of the Commonwealth Games Federation and Australia’s delegate to the International Federation of Netball Associations (IFNA) from 1989 to 2007, she was nominated for the award by Netball WA.
The SRG Sport and Leisure Service to Sport Award aims to recognise individuals for a significant contribution to their chosen sport.
In 2000, Taylor was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in recognition of her services to netball and women’s sport.
She was appointed to the IFNA board as an independent director in 2007 and has since outlined long-term goals for improving and developing the sport of netball in Asia and Africa.
Taylor was named vice-president of the IFNA in 2011 and is one of only a few Australian women to represent their sport in a leadership capacity internationally.
“We would like to congratulate Sue for her long and outstanding service to the sport of netball in WA,” WA Sports Federation chief executive Rob Thompson said.
