New animal centre opens
STRAY animals officially have a new home in the City of South Perth.
The Minister for Local Government and Communities Tony Simpson officially opened the South Perth and Victoria Park Animal Care Facility on Wednesday afternoon.
After receiving funding of $256,000 to upgrade the dog pound to an Animal Care Facility, South Perth closed the pound in March this year to begin the renovation works.
As a result, the new facility is now capable of housing over 60 animals, which includes cats following the introduction of the Cat Act.
The building design follows the guidelines as required by the RSPCA and includes isolation areas for infection, quarantine areas, assessing areas and new standards for housing of animals.
