STK BEAT ALL TO WIN STATE OF ORI­GIN TI­TLE

WA Paint­ball team STK won the State of Ori­gin ti­tle for 2014 in Syd­ney.

The team, whose mem­bers come from all over the met­ro­pol­i­tan area, play in the Perth Paint­ball League com­pe­ti­tion at WASP Paint­ball in Cara­booda.

It in­cluded Wes­ley Col­lege stu­dent Chris Nalder (16), who first played paint­ball at his 12th birth­day party be­fore join­ing the Raiders and has rep­re­sented them in two Malaysian com­pe­ti­tions.

He has played ever since and was re­cently in­vited to join the STK, the No.1 team in WA and ranked one of the best in Aus­tralia.

While in Syd­ney, STK and fel­low Perth team Rogue As­sas­sins com­peted in the Su­per 7’s Tour­na­ment and the Killer Paint­balls Aus­tralian Masters.

Go­ing into the event, STK were on top of the lad­der in the Pro Di­vi­sion by two points, and after the week­end’s com­pe­ti­tion fin­ished third over­all.

Three STK team mem­bers – Timmy Col­gan, Dan Woods and Ste­vie Brown­ing – were named in the Dream Team 2014 and Ste­vie Brown­ing also picked up the top award for Pro Player of the Year 2014.

Some of the mem­bers of the WA team also trav­elled to Langkawi in Malaysia this month to rep­re­sent Aus­tralia in the Na­tions Cup.

After de­feat­ing In­dia (4-0) and Ger­many (4-2) in their orig­i­nal pool, the team pro­gressed to the next round to de­feat Thai­land (3-2).

Aus­tralia met France in the semi-fi­nals but was de­feated. France even­tu­ally won the com­pe­ti­tion.

Aus­tralia fin­ished fourth out of the 12 na­tions rep­re­sented. Brown­ing won the Pro Player of the Year (Aus­tralia).
