Best man for the job: Simpson

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - South Perth Local Government Reform -

LOCAL Government Minister Tony Simpson says the appointment of former South Perth Mayor James Best as Commissioner to the Shire of York should restore confidence in the Shire’s ability to govern.

Mr Best, appointed Commissioner last week after Mr Simpson suspended the Shire, is executive director of the Karratha and Districts Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

On November 20, Mr Simpson issued the Shire with a “show cause” notice asking why the council should not be suspended.

In its reply, the council rejected many claims of a 30-page Department of Local Government report and asked the Government to appoint a panel with the powers of a Royal Commission to investigate corporate governance issues dating back 10 years.
